2014 UWMC Summer Sports Tournaments

The UWMC softball and soccer tournaments this year each had six teams vying for the coveted trophy to bring home to their departments. That’s over one hundred athletes from across the UWMC family. Both tournaments were lucky enough to have beautiful Seattle weather to play in, and as always the level of competition to was high.

IMG_4278First up we had the Softball Tournament which took place August 16th at the Lower Woodland Park Playfields. Four teams started play at 8 AM in a double elimination bracket. Teams “Cream and Shuga” and “Team S.T.A.T.” went home early without a win to their names. “Bowels & Fouls” were eliminated next but were still able to manage two wins on the day. “It’s Not a Toomah!” fell in the final game of the losers bracket which gave them third place. The final game was a rematch from earlier on in the day between the “Radiology Rays” and “Rhinocremasters.” Sadly for the Rays, “Rhinocremasters” once again came up with the win to go undefeated for first place.

IMG_4408Next up we had the equally competitive Soccer Tournament held just a week later in our own backyard at the IMA. The tourney started out with a fairly grueling three back to back games leading to the elimination of “Kiddie Kickers” and “The Mercer Mess” before the playoff lunch break. The first playoff games saw “Propofools” and “Skeleton Crew” lose. The two later fought for third place with “Propofools” coming out on top for a total of three wins on the day. The championship game was once again a rematch between the two best teams in “Atrial Kick” and “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’.” After a hard fought game, it was “Atrial Kick” in white that came out with the win to go undefeated the entire tournament.

The play was competitive and the times were fun. We here at the UWMC Recognition Program would like to thank all athletes who participated to help make a memorable summer. We can’t wait to do it all over again next year. Once again congratulations to “Rhinocremasters” and “Atrial Kick,” this years undisputed tournament champs!

Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Patrick Barnes’ family felt compelled to express their profound gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day, and they founded the DAISY Foundation.  Our DAISY Award winners are part of an esteemed group of nurses worldwide honored for their excellence and caring in their nursing practice.
